AEO, GEO and SEO basics
What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?
AEO is the work of making your brand easy for AI assistants to understand, trust and recommend. When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews or Amazon's shopping assistant for a product, AEO decides whether your brand is named in the answer.
What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?
GEO is the same goal seen through AI-generated search results, such as Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. It focuses on clear facts, answer-first pages and trusted third-party sources that generative engines quote and link to.
What is the difference between AEO, GEO and SEO?
SEO earns a position in a list of links. AEO and GEO earn a mention inside a single written answer, often with only three or four brands named. They share foundations, so good AEO also helps rankings, but AEO adds work SEO usually skips: consistent brand facts everywhere, content built around real buyer questions and mentions on the sources AI tools draw from. Read AEO vs SEO vs GEO.
Are LLM SEO, ChatGPT SEO and AI SEO the same thing?
They are different names for the same discipline: optimizing so large language models and AI assistants mention, cite and recommend your brand. We use AEO and GEO because they describe the outcome, being the answer.
Is AI search replacing Google?
Not replacing, adding to it. Google still sends most search traffic for most stores, and Google itself now shows AI Overviews and AI Mode. At the same time, more research starts in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Brands need to be visible in both, which is why we run SEO and AEO as one plan.
Do we still need SEO if we invest in AEO?
Yes. AI assistants often draw on pages that are already easy to find and well structured, so SEO and AEO help each other. We plan them together so they pull in the same direction.
Who is AEO for?
Product brands whose buyers research before they buy: health and wellness, beauty, food, home, baby, pets, electronics and hobbies, among others. If people ask an AI "which one should I get?" in your category, AEO matters. See who we work with.
What is Google AI Mode?
AI Mode is Google's conversational search experience. Instead of a list of links, it writes an answer and links to sources, and it lets people ask follow-up questions. It rewards the same things as other AI answers: clear facts, answer-first pages and trusted sources.
What is agentic commerce?
It is shopping where an AI agent researches products, compares them and, increasingly, completes steps of the purchase for the shopper. Clean product data and trustworthy listings matter even more when an agent is choosing. Read what agentic commerce means for brands.
How AI assistants choose brands
How do AI assistants decide which brands to recommend?
They draw on what they can read and trust: your own site and listings, reviews, publications, comparison lists and community discussion. Brands with consistent facts, answer-first content and genuine third-party mentions are named more often. Read how AI assistants choose brands.
Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor and not us?
Usually one of three reasons: the competitor's facts are clearer and more consistent, more trusted sites mention them, or their pages answer the exact question a buyer asked. The free snapshot shows which of these applies to you.
Do reviews affect AI recommendations?
Yes. Reviews on Google, Trustpilot, Amazon and other marketplaces are among the signals assistants use to judge trust, especially when they mention the use cases buyers ask about. We help you earn more genuine reviews and never buy or fake them.
Does Reddit matter for AI answers?
Often, yes. Assistants frequently cite community discussion, including Reddit and category forums. We help brands take part honestly: answering questions, sharing expertise and earning organic mentions, never astroturfing. Read Reddit and AI answers.
Does YouTube help with AI visibility?
It can. Video reviews, comparisons and how-tos are cited by several assistants, and brand mentions on YouTube have been found to track closely with AI visibility. Working with honest independent reviewers is often part of our Sources work.
Can we pay to appear in AI answers?
Not in the organic answer itself. Some assistants have started testing clearly labeled ads, and they state that ads do not change which brands the answer recommends. Earning the recommendation is what AEO is for.
Does everyone get the same AI answer?
No. Answers vary with the exact wording, the person's location, their earlier messages and the model version. That is why we test a fixed set of questions the same way every month, so changes in the numbers are real.
What if AI says something wrong about our brand?
Fix it at the source. Wrong answers usually come from outdated pages, inconsistent profiles or old third-party articles. We find where the wrong fact comes from, correct it there, and re-test. Read how to fix wrong AI answers.
Technical questions
Does schema markup help with AI answers?
Schema helps machines read your facts correctly: product, price, availability, reviews, organization and FAQ details. It is not a switch that guarantees mentions, but it removes ambiguity, which is a core part of the Entity stage of our EASY framework.
Should I block AI crawlers on my store?
Usually not all of them. There is a difference between training crawlers and the crawlers AI assistants use to fetch live answers, such as OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and PerplexityBot. Blocking the answer crawlers can keep you out of AI answers. Google-Extended controls whether Google can use your content for Gemini training and does not affect Google Search. Read is your store blocking ChatGPT?
How do I check whether AI can read my site?
Start with your robots.txt file, then check your CDN or firewall: some now block AI crawlers by default, even when robots.txt allows them. Our free snapshot includes a quick check, and the audit covers it in full.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is a cheap, sensible addition: a plain-text summary of your brand and key pages for AI systems. It is a proposed standard, not something major assistants have confirmed they rely on, so treat it as good hygiene rather than a ranking lever. Read what llms.txt is.
Should product specs be in images or text?
Text. AI cannot reliably quote what is only shown in an image. In several of our audits, the facts that would have won the answer, such as ingredients, specs or certifications, were trapped in packaging images or badges.
Does page speed matter for AI?
It helps. Slow or script-heavy pages are harder for crawlers to fetch, and some AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so content that only appears after scripts load can be missed. Important facts should be in the page's plain HTML.
What structured data matters most for an online store?
Organization, Product (with price, availability and reviews), FAQ and breadcrumbs cover most of it. Keeping your product feed and on-page facts in sync matters just as much as the markup itself.
Does a Shopify store need special changes for AI?
Usually a few: complete product schema, specs in text, answer-first product and collection copy, and a check that your theme and apps are not blocking crawlers. None of it needs a rebuild.
Do you need access to our website?
For monthly work, editor access to your CMS helps us move fast. If you prefer, we hand changes to your developer with clear instructions instead. Either works.
Ecommerce, Amazon and marketplaces
Does AEO work for Amazon sellers?
Yes. Amazon's AI assistant, now called Alexa for Shopping (formerly Rufus), reads your listing, A+ content, reviews and Q&A to decide what to recommend. We optimize listings as a knowledge source, not just a keyword list. Read Rufus is now Alexa for Shopping.
What is Alexa for Shopping?
It is Amazon's AI shopping assistant, formerly called Rufus. Shoppers ask it questions like "which is best for sensitive skin?" and it answers using product listings, reviews and Q&A. Being well described there is now as important as ranking for a keyword. See AI shopping visibility.
How do you optimize Amazon listings for AI?
We rewrite titles, bullets and A+ content around the use cases buyers ask about, fill every backend attribute, answer common questions in Q&A, and make sure the facts match your own website. Then we test what the assistant says.
Do you work with Flipkart, Walmart, Noon and quick commerce?
Yes. We work across Amazon, Walmart, Flipkart, Noon, Myntra, Nykaa and quick commerce apps such as Blinkit and Zepto. We also run full marketplace and ads management. See marketplace growth.
Do you manage marketplace advertising?
Yes, in our Be in the Cart level. Ad spend is paid to the platforms directly and is separate from our fee.
Do quick commerce apps like Blinkit and Zepto matter?
In India, yes. Shoppers search inside these apps, and incomplete listings lose sales. In one case study, making snack listings consistent across quick commerce apps helped lift monthly units from 2,200 to 3,850. Read the case study.
Is AEO worth it for a small catalog?
Often more so. A focused catalog is quicker to fix, and a clear specialist brand is easier for AI to recommend for a specific question than a store that sells everything.
Can AI assistants buy on a shopper's behalf?
Some are adding checkout and agent features that let shoppers buy without leaving the conversation. It makes accurate product data, prices and availability even more important. Read agentic commerce.
Plans and pricing
How much does AEO cost?
The snapshot is free. The AI Visibility Audit, a one-time readiness review, starts at $500+ (₹25,000+ in India), credited against your first month. Monthly plans come in four levels starting at $1,500+ a month (₹50,000+ in India), with the final price set by your customised scope. See plans and pricing.
What is in each level?
Be Understood covers brand facts, technical access and answer-first pages. Be Recommended adds reviews, PR and community sources. Be in the Cart adds AI shopping and marketplace work. Be the Default adds revenue tracking, several markets and automation. Each includes everything before it.
Why do prices start with a plus?
Because the work depends on your brand: how many markets, how big your catalog is, how many channels you sell on and how crowded your category is. We agree a fixed monthly fee after your audit, before any work starts.
Which level should we start with?
Most brands start with Be Understood, because AI cannot recommend a brand it does not understand. Your audit may show you are ready to start higher. We will tell you which level fits, and why.
Is the audit fee credited?
Yes. If you start a monthly level after your audit, the audit fee comes off your first month.
Is ad spend included?
No. Advertising budgets on Amazon, Walmart, Flipkart or Google are paid to those platforms directly. Our fee covers the strategy and management.
Is there a minimum contract?
No long lock-in. Plans run month to month. We ask for three months to see meaningful movement, because AI answers take time to shift.
Can we change levels later?
Yes. Move up when the first level is working, or step down if priorities change. We review the fit with you every quarter.
Do more markets or languages cost extra?
Yes, each extra market or language is quoted separately, because it needs its own questions, facts and sources. The Be the Default level includes several markets.
Do prices include tax, and which currency are we billed in?
Prices exclude applicable taxes. International clients are billed in USD and Indian clients in INR. Prices in other currencies on our site are approximate conversions.
How much does an automation build cost?
n8n automation builds start at $1,200+ (₹1,00,000+) per project, with optional maintenance from $600 (₹50,000) a month. Tell us what to automate.

Do you write content?
Yes. Answer-first content is a core part of the work, from rewriting product and category pages to new comparison pages and buyer guides for the questions you are missing.
Do you replace our SEO agency?
Not necessarily. We coordinate with your SEO team so the two pull in the same direction, or take on the overlap ourselves.
Can you work alongside our in-house team?
Yes. Many brands keep content or ads in-house and have us lead the AI visibility side. We agree who does what at the start, so nothing falls between the cracks.
Do you work with brands outside ecommerce?
Our focus is product brands that sell online, both direct and on marketplaces. That focus is why we know how a product actually gets recommended.
Can you automate our marketing and operations work?
Yes. We build n8n workflows for reporting, listings, reviews, lead routing and more. See AI automation.
Results and measurement
How do you measure AI visibility?
We build a fixed set of real buyer questions for your category and test them across the major assistants every month. We report share of answers against competitors, which of your pages get cited, whether AI describes you accurately, and AI-referred traffic and revenue in your own analytics.
How long does AEO take to show results?
Technical fixes and content changes are usually live within the first month. Most brands see early movement in how often they are mentioned within three to four months, and the gains build as more sources cite you.
Can anyone guarantee my brand will appear in ChatGPT?
No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. AI answers change with wording, location and model updates. We measure your visibility across a fixed set of questions every month and show exactly what we changed and how your share of answers moved.
How do you track traffic from AI assistants?
In your own analytics, by tracking visits that come from assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Some AI traffic arrives without a referrer and shows up as Direct, so we set up ways to spot it. Read AI traffic hiding in Direct.
What results have other brands seen?
Our case studies show the baseline and the result for each brand, measured the same way. For example, a clean electrolyte brand went from being named in 3% to 24% of its category's AI answers in 90 days.
What if results stall?
We tell you, explain why, and change the plan. Sometimes a model update moves answers for everyone; sometimes a competitor has earned new sources. Either way, you see it in the report first.
Will you report numbers you cannot verify?
No. We only report what we can measure and show you how, in our reports and on this site.
Markets and languages
Which markets do you work in?
We have offices in the US and India and work with brands worldwide, with a focus on the US, UK, UAE, Canada, Australia and India.
Do AI answers differ by country?
Yes. The same question can name different brands in the US, UK, UAE and India, because assistants lean on local sources, retailers and reviews. We track each market separately. Read AI visibility by market.
Can you help an Indian brand sell into the US, UK or UAE?
Yes. We map how buyers in the new market ask, which sources they trust and which marketplaces matter, then build your facts and sources there, alongside marketplace launch support.
Do you work in languages other than English?
Yes. We work in English, Hindi and Hinglish, and track buyer questions in the languages of the markets we serve, including Arabic, German, French, Korean and Japanese. Each extra language is scoped in like an extra market.

We have offices in the US and India, so we cover both time zones, and calls are booked in your own time zone.
